Hey Ian, I have been a fan of your work ever since I saw your video on Crisis City with Caddicarus. I think I was 9 or 10 years old when I saw that video. This decade of video game reviews, arcade machines, chips, other weird stacks, frozen foods, old movies, and crazy TV shows and programs has been one interesting and brilliantly enjoyable to see grow, which I have done along the same. It was a little weird watching your Pajama Sam 4 video, and you parodying old video game reviewers. Because of knowing your association with Hidden Block, but I guess we all change. And I am grateful you were able to change for the better. "I have not seen such bravery".

Anyway, the main reason for this post wasn't to go down memory lane. I have been going through a lot health wise these past 6 months, emotionally and physically. And it has made me want to finally start following some of my dreams. And one of those dreams is to become a YouTuber and to make videos. I have had some ideas that have been slowly developing in my head since high school. I am finally going to put my foot down and start to do them. I am just asking for some advice.

How do you get motivated in front of Camera or a Microphone?

Any big tips on editing. File organization, settings, pacing, easy to make mistakes to avoid?

AND the big one, I've been looking for good music and sound effects to use for my videos. And your videos are some of the best in those regards. What sound library do you use or where to find good music and sound effects to use?

Thank you for being one of my favorite people to watch for a decade, and for inspiring me to try YouTube. I can't wait for what you have in store for the next few years. And I hope, if I get lucky with YouTube. To be able to have a video of mine next to yours.

Hey Shane, thanks for your kind message! I'll do my best to answer these questions. These are only my opinions obviously, there are a ton of different approaches to making videos. I wish you luck on your YouTube journey!

1. I think getting motivated in front of the camera is something I learned to do with practice. If you go back and watch my early videos, you can tell that I needed to warm up to being on that side of the lens. Same thing with my voice overs, you can hear them improve over time if you listen for it. It was mostly just practice and learning to put even more energy out there than it feels like is necessary. Really go for it.

2. This is a really broad question because a lot goes into a video edit. I'm generally very disorganized with my files, I wouldn't get hung up on that too much. As for settings, pacing, beginner's tips, etc., I'd recommend just watching YouTube videos on the subject. There's so much knowledge out there nowadays, you don't have to learn by guess and checking like I did. Just start watching and learning, preferably at a time when you can have the editing software open to work along with the videos. Also, think about these questions when you're watching things you like. How does your favorite video handle pacing, for instance? Study what you like.

3. I get the bulk of my music and sound effects from Epidemic Sound. It's a real popular choice for YouTubers these days.

Best of luck! Honestly I think the best tip I can give is to just start making stuff. Try to make a video, and when you get stuck just search the internet for answers, then get back at it. Don't get discouraged and stick with it. You can do it!

Dear Ian,

Please review hospital food. I understand this may be difficult to accomplish, but you must find a way for food science. The quality of hospital cuisine will broaden your food quest to whole new horizons. It is IMPERATIVE to your viewers' for their favorite food reviewer to quantify the atrocities inflicted upon the sick and injured. Everyday, another BrutalMoose fan is hospitalized and unknowingly consumes what can only be described as meal malpractice. I'm sure you can find it in your heart to sacrifice a few organs or bones for the sake of food knowledge. We believe in you!

Happy new years Ian! Been a fan for a long time and I just found that you had a website from the banner on moose2
You really brought me and one of my best friends together, and have been a good emotional anchor for when I'm feeling bored, or any of those other weird emotions. Keep up the good work, and again, have a happy new year 🙂

Hi iAN! Thank you so much for making such relaxing streams. I struggle with insomnia sometimes but when I watch the moose2 VODs I can calm down enough to sleep. Been absolutely loving Raw Danger, would love to see more of that series.

Have you ever played Dave the Diver? Not your usual streaming stuff but I’ve really enjoyed it and I think you would too!

i haven't played dave the diver! all i know about it was the controversy surrounding its game awards nomination, admittedly. i'll look into it!
