Can you believe it? Two uploads in under a week? If you’ve been reading my posts here, then… I dunno, yeah you probably can believe it, I’m pretty sure I’ve been talking about it. Still! I’m happy to have uploaded back to back like that.
This video is definitely a little different than my previous food videos! A lot more pre-planning, no live tasting segments or online review segments. Although it’s presented as volume one, I’m not sure if a sequel is in the cards just yet, I just wanted to leave the door open. I think it came out alright, but it’ll be interesting to see how it goes over with the brutalfoods crowd. Are people interested in low-chaos brutalfoods occasionals? Only time will tell!
Up next is Fatty Bear stream! I’m still not 100% sure when that’s happening but it is next up on my list. If I were a betting man (which we all know that I am), I’d actually bet on July 1st. Just outside that June target I was trying to hit. I was considering doing it tomorrow, but there’s currently a heatwave in the pacific northwest and tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest day. Streaming in 110+ degree heat is a no-go from me, even with a little AC unit in my office, so I’m going to wait for it to cool down a little bit.
Hope you guys are doing well, and I hope my heatwave friends are keeping cool!
Can’t wait to watch this with a bag of doritos later. Stay cool and hydrated over there!
I had a bag of doritos while I watched too!
So, I liked it and I definitely don’t mind the ‘broadcast’-ish format. Kind of like the road trip food reviews.
Its more than enough for your ‘fans’ or your regular viewership.
Only complain from my bf, he missed the taste test footage and reacting to the taste.
Also who was the ‘bureau’? xD thats a lingering question…
aaaand the footage of the pouring/spilling into the bowl was very appealing~
Hey thanks so much for the feedback, I’ll keep that in mind if I make another chip installment! I definitely feel like the format could use one other addition, it feels a little incomplete as-is. Maybe the live tasting is what’s missing.
And yes, the bureau is very mysterious indeed…
Two videos in a week! I was shocked when I checked my YT subscriptions. Great vid as always! I’m in favor of a part 2. As a Lay’s Kettle Cooked Salt and Vinegar enthusiast, I have to ask the divisive question – are you pro or anti-Salt and Vinegar?
I’m so happy to see a new brutalfoods video. Love your editing Ian, it’s really good. I usually listen to a lot of video’s in the background but yours I actually watch.
I love the pouring and the spinny closeups, and its fun to think all the weird niches and locales you could eventually reach with this format (should there be more volumes, or maybe a few concurrent volumes of different snacks) though i do miss a little bit of the chaos. Not sure if tasting footage would bring that back or if there’s other ways but regardless I still enjoyed the video as is (: thank u for the uploads
My original comment was like 5 million words, but nobody should be subjected to reading that shit. I essentially watched it 3 times: one by myself, once with my family, then I had to rewind because my mom fell asleep. I enjoyed the video! It wasn’t chaotic as a standard Brutalfoods, but it definitely works in its favor, and still has that Brutalmoose charm. The camera shots are great in this. My mom even said “he should be a film maker”! Really curious about those Tim’s chips now. I love a good ol classic potato chip, but Lays are too… Read more »
Oof, yeah, I’m dealing with that same heatwave. 116 here today. Blew right past the old All-Time City Record of 107 for us. Awful.
Survive first, streaming can always wait! Positive Vibes!
My boyfriend and I both really liked the video, though to be honest we’d both happily watch you review just about anything. It was especially gratifying to see that you rated all of our favorites as A+es, so perhaps we’re biased 🙂
Ian, this was amazing! My chip enthusiast BF and I have always wondered what the chip offering in America was like, so we found your video informative and entertaining.
We live in Australia and our American friends have told us our country’s selection of chips is pretty insane. Apparently Aussie supermarkets stock fancy flavours you can’t get anywhere else (pepper steak, honey soy, maple bacon, cheeseburger, lamb souvlaki etc). If you’re thinking of taking your next chip guide global, we’d love to send you some samples to try/feature!
Either way, it’s great to see you back on YouTube!
I really enjoyed the video! The food photography was on another level from the normal brutalfoods videos. Even the shots of the bags looked good. I can’t imagine it’s easy to set up good lighting for reflective chip bags to be honest. It’s obviously in a different style from the regular videos, and I look forward to seeing how you’ll evolve this format if you do choose to make another volume. Personally, I’d like to maybe see the Bureau of Taste’s rating process expanded upon, or maybe a small snippet of their opinion at the end of each segment. Anyway,… Read more »
Without the live tasting reactions, this felt very calm and collected, like were catching up on the chip adventure highlights vs. happening upon it in the moment. Pleasant!
I want to second Joymali’s thoughts! Chip adventure highlights vs. happening upon it in the moment is a good way to put it. I can see some people missing the live tasting (which sounds horrific out of context) — but personally I thought it was a nice switch-up, and that it suited the video well. It seems to me there’s room enough for both energies / approaches within brutalfoods. So I’m not sure if the tasting is needed really, but if you want to keep the same energy but add tasting maybe it could be more of a casual re-tasting… Read more »
The true chaos was in the mess you made each and every time you dispersed the product. That poor table must’ve been an oily wreck…~
In spite of that, I thought it was both relaxing and informative. I like the chaotic brutalfoods, but the mellow tone of this one works really well too. The black backdrop was very stylish when presenting, I definitely thought that was pretty posh. Curious to find out the chip that gets a total F in your book.
omg this heatwave!! I don’t blame you for waiting to stream! we didn’t have ac in our apartment until last night, we managed to buy a small unit last min from a guy on craigslist at like 8 pm haha. I thought it was bad here in seattle but some friends down in oregon said it’s like 115 for them and of course no one has ac. yikesssss. stay cool!!
If you plan on a big big big installment of an chips/crisp saga, you could be open to receive potato goodness from around the world (i.e. open post box)
Amazing video! I think the pacing was nice and as one person said in the youtube comments, the amount of detail was stellar (see the cheetos bag theory). In fact, you’re video was so great, I would love to make some kind of fan project. So, if this is the right place to ask, what font did you use for the ranks?
Just found your website and I’ve been a fan for more than five years, I think. Time sure does fly. So excited to see both the videos up this week. I usually watch them all twice, once by myself and once with my husband 🤣 The chip one was unexpected but I mostly just enjoy all of your content even if it seems left field. I’m here for the humor and vibes, so keep up the great work!
Just watched the video today and loved it! I would definitely be up for a part 2!
I liked the way you filmed the chips video. It did have more of a simple review feel to it, which I don’t mind at all. I also liked how each bag of chips got poured into the bowl. I don’t know why, I guess I wanted to see if any chips would break, but no they all seemed to hold their own. I can see this becoming a series. Everyone loves chips and it’d be a great way to show off chips that may not be as well known. For example, I’ve never heard of Tim’s potato chips before… Read more »
As a European that doesn’t have access to those chips and has never heard of some of them, I still enjoyed your video so much! The way you explain stuff, the editing, etc. always make it so interesting and fun to watch. I would love to see a part 2!
Keep up the good work!
For sure happy to see you upload two in one weekish! You are my wife and I’s favorite content creator. We are DYING for some updates on the previously mentioned “large video project” how is that coming along? Hope all is well!
I thought the video was fun, but you can count me as someone who enjoys just about anything you create. I’m really hoping for regional brand representation. There are products you only get in certain regions that people sing the praises of, and while it’s silly of me, I would get really excited to see someone’s honest opinion of something like Zapp’s chips (which you can find all over Louisiana), especially a flavor like the Cajun Crawtator or Voodoo (which I think is just all their flavors mixed together).
I enjoyed this new episode, it was a nice change of pace. I especially like the aesthetic, it feels kinda cosmic like it’s in space or something lol. I’m excited for if you do a volume two, I think this would make a very nice subseries of a calmer, more relaxed version of brutalfoods.
